This course is based on the ISO 18436-2:2014 certification program for vibration analyst category I, and is designed to prepare staff for the Cat 1 Certification Exam. The course is accredited to BINDT PCN CM GEN App D.
VA Cat 1 personnel are qualified to perform a range of simple single-channel machinery vibration condition monitoring and diagnostics of machines activities in accordance with ISO 17359 and ISO 13373-1. They are qualified to:
– Know of the basic principles of vibration and recognize the different units of measurement.
– Be able to collect reliable data ensuring appropriate standards of repeatability;
be able to identify errors in collected data.
– Be able to retrieve pre-defined measurement settings for use with VA equipment and transfer data from an analysis system to a computer-based system.
– Be able to compare overall or single-value vibration measurements against pre-established alert settings.
– Be able to identify deviations from the norm for single-value vibration values and trends.
– Report on visual observations of equipment condition
This course is based on the ISO 18436-2:2014 certification program for Vibration Analyst Category II & is designed to prepare staff for the Category II Certification Exam. The course is accredited to BINDT PCN CM GEN App D.
Personnel classified to category II are able to perform industrial machinery vibration measurements and basic VA using single-channel measurements, with or without phase trigger signals, according to established and recognized procedures. They require all the knowledge, experience and skills expected of category I, and in addition they shall:
– Be able to define the measurement activities to be undertaken by a category I individual in the course of routine data collection.
– Be aware of and capable of using the basic principles of signal analysis and, as such, can define acquisition and analysis settings to collect data appropriate to the machine(s) monitored.
– Be able to perform basic (single-channel) impact tests to determine natural frequencies.
– Be able to interpret and evaluate test results from routine analysis and acceptance tests in accordance with specifications and standards.
– Be able to diagnose common fault indications and recommend basic corrective actions commensurate with their area of machinery experience including carrying out single-plane balancing of rigid rotors with or without phase.
– Be able to provide technical guidance to and instruct category I personnel.
This course is based on the ISO 18436-2:2014 certification program for Vibration Analyst Category III & is designed to prepare staff for the Category III Certification Exam. The course is accredited to BINDT PCN CM GEN App D.
Personnel classified to Category III are able to perform and/or direct and/or establish programmes for vibration condition monitoring and diagnostics of machines in accordance with ISO 17359 and ISO 13373-1. They require all the knowledge, experience and skills expected of category I and II, and in addition they shall:
– Be able to select the appropriate machinery vibration analysis technique.
– Be able to specify the appropriate vibration instrumentation hardware and software for both portable and permanently installed systems.
– Be able to measure and perform diagnosis of single-channel frequency spectra, as well as time domain plots such as waveforms and orbits, under both steady-state and unsteady operating conditions, with or without a phase trigger.
– Be able to establish vibration monitoring programmes, including determination of machines for periodic/continuous monitoring, frequency of testing, route plans.
– Be able to establish programmes for the specification of vibration levels and acceptance criteria for new machinery.
– Be able to measure and analyse basic operating deflection shapes.
– Be able to understand and be able to direct the use of alternative condition monitoring technologies (such as acoustic emission, thermography, motor current and oil analysis).
– Be able to recommend field corrective actions, such as balancing, alignment and replacement of machine parts.
– Be able to use acceleration enveloping (demodulation).
– Be able to perform basic single-plane field balancing.
– Be able to report to management regarding programme objectives, budgets, cost justification and personnel development.
– Be able to prepare reports for appropriate personnel on machine condition, recommend corrective action and report on the effectiveness of repairs.
– Be able to provide instructions and technical direction to vibration trainees.
This course is based on and exceeds the requirements of ISO 18436-6 certification program AE Category 1 syllabus. Designed to prepare candidates for the AE Cat 1 PCN Certification Exam with BINDT.
The course is accredited by BINDT PCN to CM GEN App A. All our trainers are certified AE Practitioners to Cat II or higher.
Individuals classified as AE Category I are qualified to perform industrial Acoustic Emission measurements according to established and recognised procedures and shall be able to:
– Apply a specified acoustic emission measurement procedure.
– Set up and verify operation of equipment for basic acoustic emission data collection.
– Verify the integrity of collected data and prevent or control poor data.
– Perform basic acoustic emission analysis.
– Record and categorise the results in terms of written criteria.
– Maintain a data base of results or trends.
– Evaluate and report test results in accordance with instructions.

This course is based on the ISO 18436-4:2014 certification program for Field Lubricant Analyst Category II & is designed to prepare staff for the Category II Certification Exam. The course is accredited to BINDT PCN CM GEN App C.
Personnel classified as category II are qualified to perform basic field lubricant testing and analysis according to established and recognized procedures. They require all the knowledge, experience and skills expected of category I, and in addition they shall:
– Be able to set up instruments for basic on-site testing.
– Be able to perform calibration checks on instruments used for on-site testing.
– Be able to establish procedures for sample acquisition, preparation, and transport.
– Be able select sample point locations, methods, and hardware and oversee installation of sampling hardware.
– Be able to apply selected test methods for on-site testing and wear debris analysis.
– Be able to liaise with an off-site laboratory.
– Be able to classify, interpret, and evaluate basic test results (including acceptance tests) in accordance with applicable specifications and standards.
– Be able to employ basic lubricant analysis techniques to troubleshoot lubricant, machinery, and components.
– Be able to maintain a database of analysis schedules, results, and diagnoses.
– Be able to prepare reports for appropriate personnel on basic lubricant and machine condition, recommend corrective action (non-intrusive maintenance), and report on effectiveness of repairs/changes.
– Be aware of the use of alternative or supplementary condition monitoring technologies.
– Be able to provide guidance and supervision to category I personnel.
This course is based on the ISO 18436-7:2014 certification program for Thermography Category II & is designed to prepare staff for the Category II Certification Exam. The course is accredited to BINDT PCN CM GEN App B.
Personnel classified as Category II are qualified to perform and/or direct infrared thermography analysis according to established and recognized procedures. They require all the knowledge, experience and skills expected of category I, and in addition they shall:
– Be able to select the appropriate infrared thermography technique and understand its limitations.
– Be able to specify the appropriate hardware and software for both portable and permanently installed systems.
– Be able to measure and analyse thermographic data.
– Be able to perform advanced image post processing (trending, montage, image subtraction, statistical analysis etc.) and diagnosis.
– Be able to apply thermography theory and techniques, including measurement and interpretation of survey results.
– Be able to recommend appropriate corrective actions.
– Be able to prepare reports on condition, recommend corrective action and report on effectiveness of repairs.
– Be able to provide technical direction for personnel at or below Category2.
– Be able to supervise and instruct all Category1 duties.
– Be able to establish infrared thermography programmes including determination of the requirement for periodic /continuous monitoring, frequency of testing, etc.
– Be able to establish acceptance and severity criteria.
